1. Define continuity
State the permitted interruption, whether bypass is allowed and what downstream equipment must remain protected during cleaning or chamber switching.
2. Characterize contaminants
Particle hardness, shape, cohesiveness, fibre content and loading influence whether scraping, brushing, backwashing or duplex switching is practical.
3. Define cleaning and discharge
Provide cleaning fluid availability, purge destination, acceptable product loss and the required discharge condition. Include purge flow in the process balance.
4. Specify controls
Define available utilities, instruments, alarms, interlocks, control philosophy and hazardous-area constraints before a control package is finalized.
