1. Capture full chemistry
List every process component, concentration, pH where relevant, contaminants and any cleaning or sterilization chemicals. Trade names alone may hide important constituents.
2. Use real temperature and exposure
Compatibility can change with temperature, pressure, contact time, cleaning frequency and stagnant conditions. State normal, maximum and upset conditions.
3. Review every wetted component
The vessel, internals, media, coating or lining, welds, elastomers and connection seals must be evaluated together. The strongest component does not protect an incompatible seal.
4. Treat tables as screening tools
Generic compatibility tables can narrow options but do not guarantee service life. Critical duties require supplier review and, where appropriate, customer testing.
